Public Works has several Departments under its umbrella including:

Operations and Maintenance
Envi. Services

​Operations and Maintenance is responsible for minor improvements, preventative maintenance and repair of all County buildings and equipment, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems as well as carpentry and masonry repairs.

​Custodial Services provides housekeeping and janitorial services, and weekends and after hours building security personnel for County facilities. The division's staff provides around-the-clock presence at the Courthouse.

Northampton County owns and maintains 119 bridges. The Bridge Division is responsible for yearly inspections, routine maintenance, and managing major reconstruction projects. Additionally, four bridges are jointly owned with Lehigh County, two of which are maintained by Northampton County. The division is also responsible for highway lighting repair and illumination for interchanges on routes 22 and 33.

Environmental Services, a Division of the Department of Public Works, deals with special collections and recycling education. Assistance is offered to municipal offices located within Northampton County and coordinate recycling and solid waste efforts within the County in the following ways:

·        Assist municipalities and recycling agencies with the implementation of recycling programs, education, obtaining grant funding, and environmental data management.

·        Prepare the Northampton County Municipal Solid Waste Management Plan.

·        Organize various special waste collection events for the County residents that improve and increase recycling and waste diversion.
