A lifelong Pennsylvania resident, Lamont McClure has spent much of his adult life making a difference in his community. Lamont served on the Northampton County Council from 2006 – 2013, where he became known as a tireless advocate for protecting open space and fighting to keep Gracedale under County control. Mindful of the taxpayers, he authored a law to distribute revenue from casinos to impacted townships and led the fight to help homeowners facing foreclosure.

A lawyer by training, Lamont has a strong interest in protecting children, the elderly and the environment. He attended Wilke University, majoring in History and International Studies and, in 1995, earned his Juris Doctorate from The Law School of Duquesne and turned his focus on worker’s compensation cases and fighting for victims of asbestos. Despite his busy career, he managed to find time to serve his fellow citizens in government.

While serving on Council, Lamont won funding for an additional detective in the DA’s office, dedicated to the investigation and prosecution of sexual assaults on children and he advocated aggressively for the county to collect fees, fines and restitution for victims of crime. He also authored an Ordinance known as the “Code of Civility” – rules for appropriate conduct during Council meetings.

Lamont was elected to the position of County Executive and took office on January 2, 2018. With a philosophy that county government is all about providing services for the most vulnerable people and protecting land for future generations, he moved swiftly to staff his cabinet. Understanding how important women are to society, five of his initial eight nominations were for women. For the first time in county history, the two top attorneys, Solicitor and Public Defender, are women. Women also head up the Department of Community and Economic Development, Human Resources and Human Services.

Lamont resides in Bethlehem Township with his wife, Sandra McClure, a part-time Northampton County Assistant District Attorney, and their son, Luke. They attend Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bethlehem Township.
